Theresa Wirta, RP (Qualifying)

Hi, I’m Theresa, and I’m glad you’re here.

Maybe you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of yourself. You might find your emotions difficult to manage, feel stuck in patterns that affect your relationships, or struggle to understand what you need or who you want to be.

Whatever brings you to therapy, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked for many years as a dietitian, supporting people through meaningful and often challenging changes. Over time, I came to recognize how often the concerns we experience on the surface are connected to deeper emotional experiences, nervous system patterns, relationships, and the ways we have learned to cope.

That understanding ultimately led me to psychotherapy and continues to shape the way I work today.

How I Work

I believe our struggles are complex and interconnected, and that meaningful change involves more than simply knowing what we should do.

My approach is warm, curious, nervous-system-informed, and tailored to you. Together, we may explore how past experiences, learned patterns, and your nervous system influence the way you think, feel, and relate to yourself and others.

We can begin to notice patterns that may once have helped you cope but no longer serve you, while developing a deeper understanding of yourself and creating more choice in how you respond when those patterns take over.

I’m not here to tell you who you should be or to give you all the answers. My role is to help you feel more connected to yourself, understand what you need, and move toward the life and relationships you want.

Ultimately, my hope is to help you move beyond simply coping and surviving toward feeling more present, connected, and able to genuinely enjoy the life you are building.

How I Support Clients

Anxiety, Overwhelm & Emotional Regulation

When life feels overwhelming, it can be difficult to understand why you are reacting the way you are—or why simply telling yourself to calm down doesn’t seem to work.

I help adults explore the connection between their emotions, nervous system, past experiences, and learned coping patterns. Together, we can develop greater awareness of what is happening underneath the overwhelm and build practical ways of responding with more flexibility, steadiness, and self-compassion.

Self-Worth, Relationships & Boundaries

Patterns like people-pleasing, perfectionism, difficulty setting boundaries, or constantly questioning yourself often develop for understandable reasons.

Therapy can be a place to explore where these patterns came from, how they affect your relationships today, and what it might look like to respond differently.

Our work can help you strengthen your sense of self, better understand your needs, and create relationships that feel more authentic, balanced, and connected.

Emotional Eating, Binge Eating & Relationship with Food

My background as a dietitian gives me a unique perspective on the relationship between food, emotions, the body, and our broader life experiences.

For many people, emotional eating or binge eating is about far more than food. It may become connected to stress, emotional regulation, self-worth, control, shame, or long-standing patterns of coping.

In therapy, we can approach these experiences with curiosity rather than judgment. Together, we can explore what may be happening beneath the behaviour, strengthen your connection with your body and emotional needs, and work toward a relationship with food and yourself that feels less driven by shame, rules, or struggle.
