Virtual Therapy

MEET SONIA…

Hi, I’m Sonia Nasri, a Registered Social Worker and play therapist licensed in both Ontario and Manitoba. With many years of experience supporting children, youth, and families, I bring a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and play therapy lens to my work. My approach is grounded in authenticity, connection, and a deep belief in the healing power of play—especially for children and youth growing up in an increasingly complex world.

I specialize in virtual play therapy for children ages 5–12, meeting kids where they are—in the comfort of their own homes. Virtual sessions aren’t just convenient; they reflect the realities of how families live, connect, and navigate today’s fast-paced, digitally connected world. My sessions weave together creative, purposeful activities—like balloon breathing for calming the body, a colourful coping strategy spinner, or a gingerbread outline for mapping feelings in the body—to help children regulate emotions, build coping skills, and grow through challenges.

Areas of Focus
• Complex trauma, PTSD, and attachment challenges
• ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions
• Anxiety, grief, and emotional dysregulation
• Anger, frustration, and impulse control
• Social skills development and peer relationship challenges
• Risky behaviors and impulsive decision-making
• Cultural transitions and migration-related stress
• Low self-esteem, perfectionism, and burnout
• Family conflict, school stress, and more

For Children & Youth
I support children and youth through trauma, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, autism, grief, risky behaviors, social challenges, and perfectionism. Many of the kids I work with arrive feeling “too much,” misunderstood, or stuck in patterns that make school and home life difficult.

By combining playful interventions with regulation strategies, I help kids build confidence, resilience, and stronger connections in their daily lives.

For Families
I also work closely with parents and families to support children’s growth and healing. This includes helping caregivers better understand what their child’s behaviors are communicating, strengthening co-regulation strategies, and building tools that can be used outside of sessions.

Families often find that the ripple effects of play therapy extend into improved relationships, calmer homes, and greater emotional awareness for everyone.

Cultural Sensitivity & Inclusivity
In addition to my work with children, I bring a deep commitment to supporting immigrant and refugee families, recognizing the challenges of migration, adjustment, and systemic barriers. I welcome families from diverse cultural backgrounds and lived experiences, always working through a trauma-informed, identity-affirming lens. My practice honours the impact of intergenerational trauma, marginalization, and social stressors on child development, while celebrating each family’s resilience and strengths.
